There's been a perception that companies are increasingly leaving IBM Lotus Notes for MS Exchange, though it is hard to find figures to substantiate it. In any case, to counter the outflux of customers to Microsoft Exchange from Lotus Notes, IBM has designed an interesting new strategy. IBM has started to silently promote Exchange hosting services to Exchange MSPs from IBM own data centers. This approach sends out a curious double message, in that you are almost promoting your competitor, but is practicable considering the immense popularity of hosted Exchange. At least IBM gets to keep some of the dollars. The business email service and messaging market is getting increasingly competitive with MS Exchange, hosted Exchange, Exchange Online, Lotus Notes, hosted Notes, LotusLive, and well as other MS Exchange Alternatives.
